Jon 7- In Collusion

” In collusion” is a sound collage project that was begun in November 2006, partially as a way of making use of several batches of leftover sounds from other projects. As it often does, life created several distractions, and the piece was only added to bit by bit for over 9 months. As it was being developed, and during a period of time spent away from anything but the most basic computer access, A growing body of written work, describing elements and aspects of the changes and experiences my life consisted of, began being assembled, and were intended to be a supplemental element of this release. The written portion, which was to require a lot of transcribing from handwritten form, began to drag along, delaying the release of the sound portion, as well as other label release business, So it was placed on low-priority. The writings will likely accompany another release in the near future.

That being said, “In Collusion” takes advantage of the dynamics of long and short sounds, processed and realistic, low and high-fidelity, and loud and quiet sounds to provide a sonic ride that generates its own momentum, reaching seemingly unsurpassable levels of loudness and density, only to suddenly calm down into near silence, allowing small sounds to briefly take the stage.

A short release overall, “In Collusion” in some ways replicates a painterly approach to music, a dab here, a dab there, only revealed as cohesively related when one stands back and looks, and declares it finished.
